Abstract
Important challenges now face the radiologist. Cost containment, audit, and regulation will be the order of the day, and one available modality that can help meet these pressures is modern computer technology. However, developmental costs are high and it is necessary to define applications which are useful to many radiologists in various settings. Some systems have already proven cost-effective in applications such as reporting, billing and statistics. Other systems which are aimed at file location, patient scheduling, and resource utilization will be valuable when they demonstrate their cost effectiveness and are accepted by users.
