the Editor: We were interested to read the results of the study of chlamydial proctitis reported by Quinn et al. in the July 23 issue,1 having recently conducted a similar study in 180 homosexual men. We isolated Chlamydia trachomatis from the rectum of 10 men, of whom five had symptoms of proctitis and five were asymptomatic. C. trachomatis was not isolated from 166 men, but 82 (49 per cent) of them had symptoms of proctitis.
