Abstract
To the Editor: We read with interest the article by Bayless et al.1and the letter by Shwachman and Lebenthal.2We have used the lactose tolerance test to study 40 apparently normal children six months to 12 years of age, in an attempt to determine the frequency of lactose intolerance. The children were divided into two groups: 20 children between six months and three years, and 20 between five and 12 years of age. The frequency of lactose intolerance was 30 per cent in the first group but 60 per cent in the second. Doxiadis and Papageorgiadis3reported lactose.
