Abstract

This chapter provides the reader with a multifaceted perspective of the fallopian tube. One perspective is the normal fallopian tube and the variations in epithelial morphology that can be encountered. Another is the fallopian tube as a major participant in infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), including ectopic pregnancy. Still another is the range of benign but sometimes confusing proliferations that occur in the fallopian tube and might be mistaken for significant neoplasia. Lastly the reader is introduced to a range of malignant tumors, the most common being high-grade serous carcinoma and its precursors. Thus the chapter juxtaposes normal tubal histology with its end-product tubal malignancy, bridging theory with practice.
