Abstract
Translation of research into practice must be guided by the models and frameworks that include the process of change and the identification of critical elements or variables in the organization that affect and determine whether the new knowledge fits the organization and implementation is possible. In discussing the translation of research into practice it is always useful to consider change theory and models. Changes, such as the diffusion of evidence-based practice into an organization or, more specific, the translation of new knowledge into practice, must be planned for and managed based on how the change affects the people in the organization. This chapter discusses change theories such as organizational theories of change (Lewin’s force field analysis) and behavioral theories of change (social cognitive theory, stages of change theory, theory of reasoned action, social ecological theory) and how they can be used to translate new knowledge into practice.
