Case report: Primary extracranial meningioma

Primary extracranial meningiomas (PEM) are rare lesions, accounting for less than 2% of all meningiomas and Jess than 100 case reports in the literature. They occur most commonly in the head and neck. The evaluation of these lesions requires that metastasis or extracranial extension from an intracranial lesion be ruled out. A 45 year old male was referred with unilateral nasal congestion which was unresponsive to medical management. A left-sided nasal mass was present on physical examination. After appropriate evaluation, the lesion was biopsied and pathology demonstrated meningioma. We will discuss the etiology, natural history, and management options for patients with PEM and report the fifth case of PEM of the maxillary sinus.
