Abstract
Pediatric athletes form an ever-growing population of young patients with unique and vital medical needs. Despite all of the personal, social, and physical benefits of sports participation, the risk of injury is something that must be addressed and mitigated by the physicians taking care of this population. Considerations such as patient demographics, which sports they play, how many sports they play, and other athlete-specific concerns are essential to understand in properly evaluating and providing appropriate medical attention to the patient at hand. Moreover, each visit to a physician is an opportunity to maximize the overall health and well-being of the patient and a chance to address proper injury prevention, health and safety maximization, and patient happiness with their activities.
