Abstract
The modern means of investigation 2 mg/kg physical, chemical or immunological nature have, over a hundred years, greatly improved our knowledge about mycobacteria in general and M. tuberculosis in particular. The writers limit themselves to the points which they consider to be the most important and the most interesting, and to those which are most subject to future development, namely: the structure of the wall, certain biochemical characteristics, certain data on the genetic aspect, the relations of the bacillus with the host and, finally, some remarks on the biological diagnosis of tuberculosis.
