Abstract

Abstract: Astrocytic hamartomas of the optic disc and optic disc drusen have both been previously described in patients with retinitis pigmentosa. We report a 16-year-old woman with retinitis pigmentosa in whom we were able to document photographically the growth of optic disc lesions over a four-year period. The growth of these lesions suggests that they represent astrocytic hamartomas. The relationship of astrocytic hamartomas and drusen of the optic disc in retinitis pigmentosa is discussed.
