title = "APPLICATION OF BONE INGROWTH MATERIALS IN MUSCULOSKELETAL, MAXILLOMANDIBULAR, AND CRANIOFACIAL RECONSTRUCTIONS.",
abstract = "Biological fixation through bone ingrowth into the porous surface of an implant appears to be most logical for prosthetic fixation. Although numerous types of material and porous forms have been tried, final selections are limited to only a few which have demonstrated good results. Extensive clinical trials are needed as is still too early to release such implants for general use. Cement fixation remains to be a very viable and effective method for implant fixation in the majority of clinical cases. Enthusiasm for porous implants should be carefully balanced with consideration of their many unknown characteristics. Such forms of implants have a high potential for greater utilization in skeletal reconstruction.",
