Abstract
Affective (mood) disorders are common, costly, and sometimes tragic mental illnesses. They can profoundly impair social, cognitive, and biological functioning, as well as behavior and personality. Stress exacerbates and is exacerbated by affective disorder. It is important clinically to differentiate affective disorder from other disturbances of mood such as grief and demoralization. © 2007
