Abstract
An image-noise-reduction filter derived from adaptive-filtering theory is described. The image to be filtered is modeled as an original image corrupted by adaptive white noise. In this spatial filter the coefficients are updated with a least-mean-squares algorithm. Use of the adaptive-filtering convergence factor introduces flexibility to the usual compromise between noise reduction and edge contrast retention.
